Diet
We strongly encourage you to continue feeding your new kitty a raw diet. Cats are natural carnivores, meat and bones are necessary to maintain good health, provide proper energy. Because they are naked they need the extra protein to help them adjust their body temperature. We recommend Stella and Chewys frozen or freeze dried raw. Darwin’s is also another brand that we have found that has all the necessary ingredients for optimum health. We also appreciate their commitment to providing a clean and safe diet for your naked babies.
If you choose to make your own, here is a recipe that we have found meets all the necessary requirements. An easy rule of thumb is 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% liver. If liver is not availabe, kidney is a good substitute.
Chicken breast or rabbit should not be used as the only source of muscle meat. They are too low in fat and taurine. Chicken breast and rabbit can be used as part of the diet but not more than 20%.
Here is another recipe that we have found maintains all the critical ingredients necessary for a strong and healthy diet for your kitty/cat.
Grooming
You have probably heard that Sphynx cats require care that cats with fur do not. This is true, they do need a little extra help with grooming to maintain healthy skin, ears, teeth, eyes and claws.
Bathing: Your sphynx will need to be bathed every 4-6 weeks. Do not over bath them as this will interrupt their natural oil production and change their healthy Ph levels and could lead to drying out their skin. In between baths you can use a warm washcloth to wipe them down or a waterless shampoo.
Ears: This is a weekly requirement and you can use a cotton pad or cotton swab dipped in a little olive oil or coconut oil. Be careful not to go in to far. You always want to be able to see the tip of your cotton swab.
Nails: This is also a weekly task and again you can use a cotton pad or swab dipped in olive oil or coconut oil. Be sure to get under the layer of skin that covers the base of the nail.
Feeding: Your new baby/babies should be fed 3 to 4 times a day with approximately 1⁄4 to 1/3 cup at a time. Use a raw diet as again they are natural carnivores and a raw diet will provide the necessary energy for them to maintain vitality and tone.
